Dashboards are useful because they turn large amounts of log data into views that are easier to interpret and share. They support routine monitoring, product-specific overviews, and focused investigations. This guide shows how to start from predefined dashboards and build your own custom version.

1. Start from the Dashboard Library

Open one of the predefined dashboards first. This is useful because many common technologies and use cases already have ready-made panels you can reuse instead of starting from an empty page.

2. Clone Before Editing

Create a clone of the dashboard, rename it, and then reorganize panels as needed. This keeps the original version intact while giving you full freedom to adjust layout and content.

3. Add Predefined and Custom Panels

You can add another predefined panel from the library, such as a FortiGate-related panel. You can also build a new panel from scratch, for example a pie chart that uses destination IP address as the data field.

4. Save and Set as Default

Once the layout looks right, save the dashboard. Then search for your new dashboard in settings and set it as the default. From that point on, it will appear each time you log in.
